Press Continued increase in engine performance of passenger cars prevents reduction in CO2 emissions

WIESBADEN – The average engine performance of newly registered passenger cars increased significantly from 2008 to 2015. As reported by the Federal Statistical Office (Destatis), the new registrations of 2015 had an average engine performance of 105.7 kilowatts (kW). In 2008, this figure was 96.4 kW. In arithmetic terms, fuel consumption thus was 3.7 billion litres higher and carbon dioxide emissions increased by 9.3 million tonnes from 2008 to 2015.
