Press 2 in 10 of the babies born in 2015 had mothers with foreign citizenship

WIESBADEN – A total of 738,000 children were born in 2015; 590,000 were born to German mothers and 148,000 had mothers with foreign citizenship. The Federal Statistical Office (Destatis) also reports that foreign women accounted for 20% of all births in Germany. Between 1996 and 2014, their share remained nearly unchanged between 17% and 18%.
