Press Wheat and silage maize production accounts for the largest part of arable land (45%)

WIESBADEN – In 2016, the area used as arable land in Germany remained constant (11.8 million hectares) compared with the last few years. Based on provisional data of the land use survey, the Federal Statistical Office (Destatis) also reports that farmers used the major part of arable land (6.4 million hectares or 54%) for the production of cereals again in 2016. The production of wheat and silage maize accounts for the largest part (together 45%) of arable land.
