Press Households spend 300 euros per month on food and tobacco

WIESBADEN – In 2013, households in Germany spent an average 300 euros each month on foodstuffs, beverages and tobacco. The Federal Statistical Office (Destatis) also reports that food accounted for most of this expenditure (225 euros or 75%). Expenses for non-alcoholic beverages amounted to 32 euros (11%) and were slightly higher than expenses for alcoholic beverages (26 euros or 9%). On average, 17 euros (6%) were spent on tobacco products each month.
