Press Fish production declined markedly by 9.5% in 2015

WIESBADEN – In 2015, roughly 26,900 tonnes of fish, mussels and other aquaculture products were produced in approximately 3,300 aquaculture businesses in Germany. The relevant quantity of fish amounted to approximately 19,000 tonnes. The Federal Statistical Office (Destatis) also reports that, compared with a year earlier, fish production declined strongly by 9.5% (-2,000 tonnes), while aquaculture production as a whole increased by roughly 2.5% (+650 tonnes). While fish production declined markedly, the increase observed in mussel production was similarly strong. Compared with 2014, the quantity of mussels produced increased by about 2,600 tonnes (+49.8%) to approximately 7,900 tonnes.
