Press More accidents but fewer fatalities in the 1st quarter of 2016

WIESBADEN – According to provisional results of the Federal Statistical Office (Destatis), 613 people lost their lives in road traffic accidents during the first three months of 2016. These were 42 or 6.4% less compared with the same period a year earlier, that is, January to March 2015. However, the number of people injured fell only slightly by 0.5% to approximately 76,300. On the whole, the police recorded roughly 577,000 accidents in the first quarter of 2016, which was an increase of 1.0% on the same period a year earlier. This figure included 519,000 accidents (+1.3%) that involved only material damage and 58,000 accidents (–1.6%) in which at least one person was injured.
