Press Social security funds surplus of 1.2 billion euros in 2015

WIESBADEN – In 2015, the social security funds recorded a cash surplus (as defined in public finance statistics) of 1.2 billion euros. The Federal Statistical Office (Destatis) also reports that the surplus was 2.1 billion euros lower than in the previous year. 

The social security funds’ revenue totalled 577.3 billion euros in 2015. This was a year-on-year increase of 4.0%. Expenditure increased by 4.4% to 576.0 billion euros. The social security funds include statutory health insurance (including the umbrella health fund), statutory accident insurance, general pension insurance and miners' pension insurance, the farmers' pension fund, statutory long-term care insurance (including the care insurance provident fund) and the Federal Employment Agency (including the pension fund for Agency officials).
