Press Maritime transport in 2015: freight transhipment down 2.6%

WIESBADEN – In 2015, freight transhipment in maritime transport declined 2.6% on the previous year. The Federal Statistical Office (Destatis) reports that a total of 296.2 million tonnes of goods were handled in German sea ports that year. In 2014, the relevant volume of freight was 304.1 million tonnes. 

In 2015, the volume of goods received from foreign countries decreased slightly more (–3.0%) than dispatches to foreign ports (–2.7%). In contrast, intra-German maritime transport, which at 8.2 million tonnes is the smallest traffic relation, rose by 8.3%.
