Press New orders in manufacturing in February 2016: –1.2% seasonally adjusted on the previous month

WIESBADEN – Based on provisional data, the Federal Statistical Office (Destatis) reports that price-adjusted new orders in manufacturing had decreased in February 2016 a seasonally and working-day adjusted 1.2% on January 2016. For January 2016, revision of the preliminary outcome resulted in an increase of 0.5% compared with December 2015 (primary –0.1%). Price-adjusted new orders without major orders in manufacturing had increased in February 2016 a seasonally and working-day adjusted 0.3% on January 2016.

In February 2016, domestic orders increased 0.9%, while foreign orders decreased by 2.7% on the previous month. As regards the direction of trade in foreign transactions, new orders from the euro area were down 3.7% on the previous month and new orders from other countries decreased 2.1%.

In February 2016 the manufacturers of intermediate goods rose 1.7%, while the manufacturers of capital goods showed decreases of 2.1% on the previous month. For consumer goods, a decrease in new orders of 7.3% was recorded.

The rates of change are based on the volume index of new orders for manufacturing (2010 = 100). Seasonal and working day adjustment is done using the Census X-12-ARIMA method.
