Press Municipal budgets record surplus of 3.2 billion euros in 2015

WIESBADEN – The core and extra budgets of the municipalities and associations of municipalities in Germany excluding city states achieved a surplus (as defined in public finance statistics) of approximately 3.2 billion euros in 2015. The Federal Statistical Office (Destatis) also reports that a small financial deficit of 0.6 billion euros had been recorded in the previous year. These results are based on quarterly municipal cash statistics. There have been revisions of figures reported for several quarters of 2014 and 2015 by the Länder of Baden-Württemberg, Nordrhein-Westfalen and Saarland.
