Press Four in ten secondary general schools closed in the last ten years

WIESBADEN – The number of secondary general schools decreased by 42% to 3,039 in school year 2014/2015 compared with 2004/2005. The Federal Statistical Office (Destatis) also reports that most schools that were closed in the last ten years were secondary general schools. The number of intermediate schools was down by 23% and that of schools offering different courses of education by 1%. The number of integrated comprehensive schools (+144%) more than doubled. There were a total of 33,600 schools of general education in Germany in school year 2014/2015. Their number was down by 14%, or 5,500 schools, from ten years ago.
