WIESBADEN – In 2015 German local courts reported 23,123 business insolvencies. Based on provisional figures, the Federal Statistical Office (Destatis) also reports that this was a decrease of 4.0% compared with 2014. The number of business insolvencies reached the lowest level since the enactment of the Insolvency Statute in 1999. An increase in the number of business insolvencies was last observed in the crisis year of 2009 (+11.6% from 2008).
The local courts reported that, in relation to the business insolvency requests, the prospective debts owed to creditors amounted to roughly 17.5 billion euros in 2015. In 2014 they totalled roughly 25.2 billion euros.
