Press Transportation and storage: number of persons employed up 2.6% in 2015

WIESBADEN – In 2015, the number of persons employed in transportation and storage rose by 2.6% year on year. Turnover increased by 0.8%. Based on first calculations, the Federal Statistical Office (Destatis) also reports that the number of persons employed in the fourth quarter of 2015 rose by 3.1% compared with the same quarter of 2014. Hence the number of persons employed has been higher in each quarter since the second quarter of 2010 compared with the corresponding quarter of the previous year. Turnover declined slightly by 0.1% in the fourth quarter of 2015 from the same quarter a year earlier. 

Transportation and storage include land transport (road and rail) and transport via pipelines, water transport, air transport, warehousing and support activities for transportation (for instance operation of transport routes, railway stations, airports, and postal and courier activities).
