Press 265.5 billion euros for education, science and research in 2014

WIESBADEN – According to provisional calculations of the Federal Statistical Office (Destatis), 265.5 billion euros were spent on education, science and research in Germany in 2014. This was an increase of 3.2% compared with 2013. Factors contributing to this development included the expansion of childcare and of research and development. When measured as a percentage of the 2014 gross domestic product, 9.1% were spent on education, science and research, which was equal to the proportion of the previous year. 

The largest part of the expenditure (151.7 billion euros) was used for education in crèches, nursery schools, schools, higher education institutions (including research and development) and the dual system of education and training in 2014.
