Press C O R R E C T I O N : Asparagus ranked first in German vegetable cultivation in 2015

Press release No. 067 of 29 February 2016

WIESBADEN – Asparagus was cultivated on 25,700 hectares in Germany in 2015, which is an increase of 2% on a year earlier. That makes asparagus the number one of German vegetables in terms of the area under cultivation. The Federal Statistical Office (Destatis) also reports that the quantity of asparagus harvested remained nearly constant at 114,000 tonnes. Two thirds of the yields were produced in Niedersachsen (25,200 tonnes), Bayern (18,400 tonnes), Nordrhein-Westfalen (18,000 tonnes) and Brandenburg (15,300).

Asparagus was followed by onions (10,300 hectares) and carrots (9,600 hectares) on the list of largest vegetable cultivation areas in the open.
