WIESBADEN – As reported by the Federal Statistical Office (Destatis), in 2015 the railway companies operating on the German railway network together transported a total of 361.2 million tonnes of goods, which represented a decrease of 3.8 million tonnes from 2014 (–1.0%).
A year-to-year-comparison shows that transit traffic increased by 4.5%. National traffic (238.3 million tons) stagnated (–0.2%), goods carried abroad decreased by 0.5% and goods coming from abroad went down by 6.5%.
The transport performance measured in terms of tonne-kilometres reached the level of 114.3 billion (+1.5% from 2014). As a quotient of the values of tonne-kilometres and tons the average transport distance per ton can be calculated. It amounted to 317 kilometres (+2.6% from 2014).
The transport of containers and swap-bodies reached 2015 a volume of 5.9 million TEU (Twenty foot equivalent units) which reflects a minus of 6.5% from 2014.
