Press Increase of 7.5 million Passengers on German Airports in 2015

Press release No. 055 of 19 February 2016

WIESBADEN – In 2015, a total of 193.9 million air passengers departed from or arrived at German airports in international and national air traffic. The Federal Statistical Office (Destatis) also reports that this was a growth of 7.5 million travellers from 2014 which represents a plus of 4.0%.

The increase mainly stems from traffic in connection with foreign countries (170.8 million passengers) which grew by 7.1 million passengers (+4.4%). The growth of national traffic (23.1 million) amounted only to 0.4 passengers (+1.7%).

Traffic with European countries (132.9 million) saw a growth of 4.5% which reflects the development of the whole market for foreign traffic. Above average growth rates were registered for Turkey (+7.8%), the United Kingdom (+6.3%) and Italy (+6.2%).

The growth rate for intercontinental traffic amounted to +3.7%. The highest plus (+7.2%) showed Asia followed by Africa (+3.3%). However the traffic-figures with America stagnated (+0.3%) because the most important countries – the United States (–0.6%) and Canada (0.0%) – could not increase their number of passengers.
