Press release No. 020 of 20 January 2016

WIESBADEN – The food prices for consumers in Germany were 0.8% higher in 2015 compared with 2014. To coincide with the International Green Week taking place in Berlin from 15 to 24 January, the Federal Statistical Office (Destatis) reports that consumer food prices rose rather moderately, although the increase was markedly larger than that of consumer prices as a whole (+0.3% on 2014). This trend is also revealed over the medium term: The increase in food prices since 2010 (+12.4%) has been markedly higher than the general rise in consumer prices (+6.9%).
