Francesca Kay* 1

Abstract

The use of Artificial Intelligence/Machine Learning (AI/ML) for the production of official statistics is one of the strategic domains that need to be developed further and where coordinated European Statistical System (ESS) action is beneficial. This session provides an overview of the creation of a One-Stop-Shop for Artificial Intelligence/Machine Learning for Official Statistics for the ESS. The project is of 4 years duration and will bring together a consortium of 14 countries (13 Member States and Norway) to develop knowledge and use cases supporting the use of AI/ML-based solutions for the production of official statistics. It will play an important role in developing innovative solutions with respect to statistical products and processes, allowing for more timely production of official statistics and the delivery of better responses to user needs.

The key aims for the One-Stop-Shop are to:

  • set up a single-entry point for ESS staff to facilitate their accessing and deploying AI/ML solutions,
  • where they will receive tailored guidance and assistance in deploying AI/ML solutions within adequate methodological and implementation frameworks and
  • where they can avail of the knowledge and use cases experiences developed by the consortium,
  • allowing them to use AI/ML to develop new statistical products and processes for creating official statistics.

The session will cover the key activities and scope of the project.
