About us Conference on Anonymization of Integrated and Georeferenced Data

7-8 October, 2024 in Berlin
Spreespeicher in Berlin and virtual

The rapid digitization of society has ushered in an era in which vast amounts of data are readily available to study social, political and economic trends. While combining disparate data sets can provide a wealth of valuable insights, it poses a critical challenge: how to protect the privacy of individuals and organizations while preserving the quality of the data. For instance, merging mobile phone data with census information could potentially reveal detailed sociodemographic profiles of specific neighborhoods but also for businesses or individuals. Therefore, it is essential to anonymize data sets in a privacy-compliant manner to enable in-depth analysis.

The research cluster "Anonymization of Integrated and Georeferenced Data (AnigeD)" explores new techniques and methods of data anonymization to unlock the full potential of data analysis. Collaborating partners are Freie Universität Berlin, Institute for Employment Research, Technische Hochschule Köln, Speyer University, Duisburg-Essen University, Deutsche Telekom GmbH, Max Planck Institute for Software Systems.

AnigeD, coordinated by the Federal Statistical Office of Germany, is part of the Research Network “Anonymization for Secure Data Use” of the Federal Ministry of Education and Research as part of the Federal Government's research framework programme on IT security "Digital. Secure. Sovereign." and is funded by the European Union - NextGenerationEU. AnigeD operates as an open competence cluster dedicated to the research of anonymization techniques for geo-referenced and linked data. For more information on the research cluster AnigeD, please visit our website.

The research cluster AnigeD is organizing the Midterm Conference on Anonymization of Integrated and Georeferenced Data to enhance the dialogue with the scientific community and stakeholders from society, politics, administration and the economy. The conference will provide an opportunity for discussion and exchange on methods of data anonymization.

Conference Topics:

We invite researchers, academics, and practitioners to submit their papers and contribute to the discussion on the critical challenges and advancements in the field of data anonymization. We welcome contributions in the following research areas, including but not limited to:

  • Legal aspects of data anonymization
  • Evaluation of anonymized data based on formal criteria
  • Anonymization using synthetic data
  • Anonymization of georeferenced data
  • Open software tools for anonymization
  • Analysis of anonymized data

Join us at the Midterm Conference on Data Anonymization, scheduled for 7-8 October 2024, and be part of the innovative solutions that will shape the future of secure data use.
