More about Jonathan Latner

Dr. Jonathan Latner earned his Ph.D. in Sociology with a focus on social stratification and urban sociology from the University of Wisconsin - Madison (2015), where he also studied Sociology (M.Sc. 2011). Additionally, he studied Regional Economics and Social Development at the University of Massachusetts - Lowell (M.A. 2009), as well as Sociology and Politics at Brandeis University (B.A. 2002). He has published articles as a sole and co-author on topics including temporary employment, inequality and mobility, economic insecurity and income volatility, the impact of a basic income experiment on labor and non-labor activities, as well as foreclosure and racial segregation.

Before graduate school, he spent many years in Massachusetts (USA) conducting and evaluating job training programs aimed at improving the lives of adults living in or threatened by poverty. This experience serves as the foundation for his research interests in the areas of work and employment, income dynamics (inequality, volatility, and mobility), and urban sociology. These seemingly broad topics share a common focus on inequalities—particularly in the long term—in the relationship between rising economic growth and decreasing job security.
